The Garden Gets a Haircut
This has been my first week out on the farm at Morven, and we've made a lot of exciting progress! We're pretty much done planting everything, with the exception of the okra. We planted eggplant, cantaloupe, watermelon, squash, zucchini, beans (pole and bush), and more swiss chard, not to mention a few herbs on the side. We've been quite busy! One of the most apparent changes though happened this morning at around 7am. We got our weeds mowed! On the sides of the plot and in the half-acre where we plan to plant corn and cover crops, we had tons of weeds growing. Some were more friendly than others, with patches of chamomile, mint, and verbena battling off poison ivy and crabgrass. However, now our farm looks so much better! One of the amazing workers at Morven mowed the weeds, and he did a fantastic job! He even skillfully managed to avoid the flags which we had put up earlier in the season, now hiding in the brush. Our garden looks so much more open and official! We are all quite proud! We also started a new tradition this morning of Special Friday [Blank]. To kick off this tradition, we filled in the [Blank] with... watermelon! Michelle and Marie brought down a watermelon, and we sliced it up and enjoyed it in the fresh, almost chilly breeze. Wow, it's been an awesome week, and I'm so excited to continue to help our garden grow!
