
Stettinius Prize
This prize recognizes an individual whose life and work reflect America’s first Secretary of State, Thomas Jefferson, and the distinguished career of Edward R. Stettinius, Jr. who served the nation as Secretary of State and led the international effort to establish the United Nations. The Honorable Madeleine K. Albright was chosen as the inaugural recipient of the Edward R. Stettinius, Jr. Prize for Global Leadership.

2016 Edward R. Stettinius, Jr. Prize for Global Leadership: The Honorable Madeleine K. Albright
Dr. Albright was the 64th Secretary of State, and the first female Secretary of State.From 1993 to 1997, Dr. Albright served as the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations and was a member of the President’s Cabinet. She is a Professor in the Practice of Diplomacy at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. Dr. Albright chairs the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs. In 2012, she was chosen by President Obama to receive the nation’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, in recognition of her contributions to international peace and democracy.
2016 Presidential Precinct Young Leader Award: Ms. Oluwatoyosi Ogunseye
Oluwatoyosi Ogunseye is an editor, journalist, and the head of language services at BBC World Service for the West African region. She was the former Editor of Nigeria’s Sunday Punch Newspaper. She was the first female editor in the 41-history of Punch, Nigeria’s most widely read newspaper. In 2014, Ogunseye won the Knight International Journalism Award, becoming the first Nigerian journalist to win this renowned prize. Ogunseye holds a BS in Biochemistry from the University of Lagos, Nigeria; PGD in Print Journalism from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism; MS in Media and Communications from the Pan-Atlantic University, Nigeria; and is currently studying for a PhD in Politics and International Relations at the University of Leicester, United Kingdom.
