More Rainy Days and a Garden Tour: Happy Fall!
We greeted the official first day of fall (today!) with rainy skies and rolling clouds. It was an excellent morning to catch up on some planning and debriefing of our current projects. We are planing and making a State of the Garden Report to lay out in writing our thoughts of our first year gardening in Morven soil. This report will have three purposes: 1) Documentation, including descriptions and analyses of each crop, the CSA program, and the apprenticeships; 2) Fundraising, with the report serving as a summary of what we've already accomplished to help us look for support for the future; and 3) Thank-yous because we are so grateful to everyone who has supported us in any way and we'd like to keep people up-to-date with our progress. Besides planning this report, we also solidified our date of October 15th as a big work-day for students (and whoever else) to come help us out in the garden. We began to plan our next big event in our garden too, tentatively scheduled for October 27th. We'd like to have pumpkin-carving and a potluck! More news on that to come! After planning and hanging out indoors for a bit, we headed to the gate to meet a group of students and Charlottesville community members to give them a tour of our garden, organized by Kendall Singleton with UVa Green Dining. Even though the rain held off at first, it started raining harder as our tour progressed. We had an awesome and enthusiastic group though, so it was fine! People asked great questions, and it was really fun to show people our garden. Also... our garden is famous! A local newswoman from NBC 29 accompanied us on our tour, and we were featured on this evening's news report!
