spring has sprung!

One look at the beautiful weather forecast this week, it certainly seems like spring is in the air! With a week full of sunshine and temperatures near 80 degrees, everyone at Morven couldn't be more ready to spring into SPRING.This morning, Rowan and I started bright and early at 7:30am in the garden with Hidalgo (our trusty rototiller), who got his first taste of spring dirt this morning now that the ground is dry enough to start tilling and prepping the rows for planting.A few quick passes through the first rows with the tiller, and we can already see that all of the cover cropping and composting has worked wonders on what used to be just a field of red Virginia clay! This week we will be taking advantage of the sunny skies by doing lots of tilling, row prepping, and planting, planting, planting. Onions, potatoes, sugar snap peas, lettuces, kale, swiss chard, spinach -- it's all going in! We are giddy just thinking about it.Meanwhile, our greens and herbs in the greenhouse are growing bigger and more beautiful everyday. Last week, we repotted the kale and swiss chard into bigger containers -- and in a week or two they will be ready to plant.Stay tuned this week -- as we will be announcing our first spring workday! Hope to see you in the garden soon.
